CAS reaffirms commitment to civilian protection in counter-terrorism operations

The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, has restated the Nigerian Air Force’s (NAF) unwavering commitment to the protection of civilian lives and property in all theatres of operation across the country.

According to Director of Public Relations and Information Headquarters, Nigerian Air Force Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, this assurance aligns with the Service’s vision of a mission-ready and people-focused force. To reinforce this commitment, the CAS directed the Chief of Civil-Military Relations (CCMR), Air Vice Marshal Ibikunle Daramola, to conduct a strategic engagement with the Air Component of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Sector 2, currently operating in the North West.

During his visit to frontline troops, AVM Daramola praised their operational successes under Operation FANSAN YAMMA, attributing the achievements to the transformational leadership and strategic direction of the Air Chief. He stressed the importance of precision strikes and adherence to international humanitarian law to maintain public trust.

“Every action we take must demonstrate not only tactical efficiency but also strategic empathy,” Daramola stated. He highlighted that public trust is the Air Force’s most vital force multiplier and urged personnel to remain professional, disciplined, and mission-focused.

AVM Daramola also emphasized the crucial role of community cooperation in operational effectiveness. “This is the people’s Air Force — we are here to protect them. But to succeed, we need their trust and timely, credible intelligence,” he said.

In his remarks, the Air Component Commander of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Sector 2, Air Commodore Garba Ibrahim Jibia, described the engagement as a morale booster and a clear indication of NAF Headquarters’ strategic support.

The visit underpins the CAS’s directive that all NAF operations must align with international best practices and humanitarian law. It also reaffirms the Air Force’s commitment to operational precision, civilian protection, and stronger synergy with local communities and ground forces as it intensifies efforts to address insecurity through both kinetic and non-kinetic means.
