The Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS) on Thursday, August 15, 2024 presided over the decoration ceremony of four newly promoted officers at the EZEOBA Hall, Naval Headquarters, Abuja. These officers were elevated from the rank of Lieutenant to Lieutenant Commander in the Nigerian Navy.
The newly promoted officers are:
- Lieutenant Commander Solomon Opeyemi Aborisade
- Lieutenant Commander Oluwagbemiga Michael Adebowale
- Lieutenant Commander Wilfred Izilien
- Lieutenant Commander Yakubu Usman Yusuf

Representing the CNS, the Chief of Policy and Plans, Rear Admiral Joseph Daniel Akpan, commended the officers for their hard work, discipline, and dedication to duty, which earned them this well-deserved promotion. He emphasized that promotion brings increased responsibilities and urged the new Lieutenant Commanders to maintain professionalism and avoid actions that could tarnish their records. Rear Admiral Akpan also acknowledged the crucial role played by the officers’ families, thanking them for their support and for maintaining stability at home.
Speaking on behalf of the newly promoted officers, Lieutenant Commander Aborisade expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for the opportunity to serve the nation. He also thanked the CNS and the Navy Board for recognizing their efforts and elevating them to their new ranks. The officers pledged to enhance their productivity in their respective departments.
The ceremony was attended by Principal Staff Officers of the Naval Headquarters, Directors, Deputy Directors, senior officers, and the families and well-wishers of the newly decorated officers.
