Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), has reassured the commitment of Nigerian Army troops to decisively address security challenges prevalent in Benue and neighboring states. The COAS conveyed this commitment during a courtesy visit to the Governor, Reverend Father (Dr) Hyacinth Alia, at the Benue State Government House on Wednesday, November 29, 2023.
In an official statement released by the Director Army Public Relations Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu said General Lagbaja expressed gratitude to Governor Alia, the state government, and the people for fostering a positive relationship between the state and the Nigerian Army. He also acknowledged the support extended to the troops operating in the region.
During the visit, Governor Hyacinth Alia commended the efforts and sacrifices of Nigerian Army troops in maintaining peace in Benue State. He assured continued support from his administration to enhance the operational efficiency of the troops, emphasizing the protection of lives and property.
In a separate development, the COAS conducted a working visit to the 4 Special Forces Command of the Nigerian Army in Doma, Nasarawa State. Addressing the troops in Doma, General Lagbaja commended their resilience and selflessness in serving the nation. He urged the troops to maintain the highest standards of professionalism in the discharge of their duties.
During the visit to the Nigerian Army Barracks in Doma, the COAS assured the troops of the Federal Government and the Army High Command’s commitment to improving infrastructural amenities and providing combat enablers for optimal performance.
General Lagbaja emphasized the importance of discipline and urged the troops to give their very best in serving their fatherland.
