COAS commends troops’ resilience, pledges increased support for Zamfara security

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, has expressed commendation for the unwavering resilience and sacrifices exhibited by the troops of 1 Brigade Nigerian Army in the relentless combat against terrorism and insurgency in the North West region of Nigeria.

As conveyed by Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, Director of Army Public Relations, the COAS delivered this commendation during his operational visit on Saturday, April 6, 2024, to the 1 Brigade Area of Responsibility situated in Gusau, Zamfara State. During the visit, he received a comprehensive briefing from Brigadier General Sani Ahmed, the Commander of 1 Brigade, regarding the activities and notable achievements of the troops in the ongoing Operation Desert Sanity II, which is being conducted in Zamfara State and its neighboring areas.

General Lagbaja reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigerian Army to provide further support to the brigade, including the provision of combat enablers and other essential operational resources. These measures are aimed at bolstering the operational efficiency of the troops in safeguarding their designated Area of Responsibility.

In addition to his engagements with military personnel, the COAS took the opportunity to extend a courtesy visit to His Royal Highness Alhaji (Dr) Ibrahim Bello Sarkin Katsinan Gusau, the Emir of Gusau. During this visit, he conveyed gratitude to the royal father and the residents of Gusau for their steadfast support towards the troops and the Nigerian Army at large. General Lagbaja assured the Emir of Gusau that, with sustained collaboration and backing from the community, the challenges posed by terrorism and insurgency would be effectively overcome.
