CoAS urges continuous review of contingency plans to bolster security preparedness at Abuja seminar

In a strategic move to address the evolving security challenges in Nigeria, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, has called on field commanders and senior leaders of the Nigerian Army to enhance their preparedness by regularly reviewing contingency plans.

According to Director Army Public Relations Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, this directive was issued during the opening of the second senior command leadership seminar held in Abuja.

Representing the COAS, Major General Obinna Ajunwa, Director General of the Nigerian Army Heritage and Future Center, stressed the importance of the Nigerian Army’s adaptation to the dynamic security landscape, which now encompasses threats beyond conventional battlefields. He urged field commanders to focus on developing capabilities to effectively tackle emerging security issues and build a robust ‘future force.’

The seminar, themed “Enhancing Operational Level Commander and Leadership within a Joint Environment,” focused on key aspects of command and leadership crucial for operational efficiency in complex environments. General Lagbaja underscored the necessity of aligning with his command philosophy to transform the Nigerian Army into a well-trained, equipped, and highly motivated force, committed to fulfilling constitutional responsibilities within a joint environment.

Commander Army Headquarters Garrison, Major General Koko Isoni, emphasized the importance of fostering collaboration and the exchange of ideas among senior commanders to address operational challenges. He highlighted that the seminar offers a platform for experts to share insights on contemporary security issues and propose solutions to enhance the army’s operational effectiveness.

The seminar’s first day featured insightful lectures: “Operational Level Command and Leadership in the Contemporary Security Environment in Nigeria” by Major General Olufemi Akinjobi (rtd), and “Fundamentals of Leadership for Senior Army Officers” by Professor Okey Ikechukwu. These lectures sparked thought-provoking interactive sessions among the participants.
