In a recent operational visit to the Headquarters of the 82 Division, Nigerian Army, on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, Chief of Army Staff (CoAS) Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja has charged the troops with maintaining loyalty and commitment to their constitutional responsibilities as outlined in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The Director of Army Public Relations, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu reported that the directive aims to secure the nation’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and peaceful coexistence of its citizens.
Commending the resilience and sacrifices of the troops, the Army Chief cautioned them against succumbing to negative influences from social media, emphasizing its potential to spread false and harmful information. He stressed the importance of avoiding manipulation into making misguided decisions or engaging in illegal activities, in contravention of established regulations and the core values of the Nigerian Army.

Lt. Gen. Lagbaja underscored the Nigerian Army’s zero-tolerance policy for illegalities, reiterating the force’s commitment to discipline. He reminded the troops that they operate within their host communities and must adhere to the highest standards of conduct.
Highlighting commendable interventions by the Federal Government in troop welfare and combat enablers, the CoAS announced the settlement of the backlog of unpaid Group Life Assurance dating back to 2011. Additionally, he disclosed the commencement of payment for troops’ Accident Insurance. Lt. Gen. Lagbaja urged the troops to reciprocate these welfare interventions by maintaining loyalty, discipline, and enhancing their operational effectiveness in addressing the country’s security challenges.
During his visit, the CoAS paid tribute to the people and government of Enugu and Ebonyi States for their support and collaborative relationship with the 82 Division of the Nigerian Army. Governors Peter Mbah and Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru were lauded for their commitment to the restoration of peace and stability, which has facilitated socio-economic development in their respective states.

Lt. Gen. Lagbaja, in his visit to the 24 Support Engineer Regiment in Nkwagu Military Cantonment, Ebonyi State, reiterated the need for troops to remain steadfast and dedicated to duty, emphasizing the Nigerian Army’s continuous efforts to provide conducive working and living environments for all personnel.
The highpoint of the CoAS’ visit included the unveiling of the remodeled Headquarters 82 Division Complex, the commissioning of renovated projects within the cantonment, such as two blocks of 36 mini flats at the Corporal Below Quarters, the new Dragon Officers’ Mess, and a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of Officers’ Transit Accommodation. Additionally, he commissioned a newly built Squadron Office at the 24 Engineer Support Regiment in Nkwagu Military Cantonment.
