The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, on Friday, November 21, 2025, visited troops injured in combat at the 44 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital, Kaduna, as part of his maiden operational tour of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA.
According to Acting Director, Army Public Relations Lieut Col Appolonia Anel, General Shaibu commended the wounded soldiers for their bravery and sacrifices in defending the nation, assuring them of the Nigerian Army’s firm commitment to providing comprehensive medical care to ensure their full recovery.
Drawing on his personal experience, the Army Chief recalled being admitted to the same facility after sustaining injuries in action, noting that he fully understands the physical and emotional challenges faced by wounded personnel. He expressed strong confidence in the hospital’s management and medical standards, assuring the troops that they were in capable hands.
The COAS urged the injured soldiers to follow their treatment plans diligently, emphasizing that their recovery remains a top priority under his leadership, which places renewed focus on personnel welfare and family support.
During the visit, General Shaibu also praised the Medical Director, Brigadier General Godwin Ogoh, alongside officers, soldiers, and civilian staff of the hospital, for their professionalism, dedication, and selfless service. Accompanied by senior officers from Army Headquarters, he toured the hospital facilities to assess ongoing upgrades and improvements.
Continuing his operational engagement, the Army Chief later visited Headquarters Sub-Sector 4 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA along the Kaduna–Abuja Highway, where he interacted with troops and evaluated their morale and readiness.
