Community leader commends troops as Operation Lake Sanity 2 enhances peace in Lake Chad Region

As Operation Lake Sanity 2 enters its third month, the southern islets of Lake Chad are experiencing a significant improvement in peace and security. This progress was underscored by a visit from the Chadian Sultan of Kinassaram, Abakar Yerima, to the troops of Task Force Kirta in Darak, Cameroon.

Chief Military Public Information Officer HQ MNJTF – Ndjamena, Chad Lieutenant Colonel Abubakar Abdullahi said the Sultan’s visit aimed to express gratitude to the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) troops for their relentless efforts in restoring stability to the region. He lauded the substantial progress made since the operation’s inception, emphasizing the essential role of the Task Force in safeguarding the well-being of local residents.

Sultan Abakar highlighted that farmers and fishermen have been able to resume their activities without threats since the operation began. As a token of appreciation and respect for the troops’ dedication, he donated sheep to them.

In response, the commander of Task Force Kirta, Navy Captain Patrick Nnom Mabiom, acknowledged the harsh conditions under which the troops operate, including the persistent threat of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) from terrorists. Despite these challenges, he assured that the troops remain committed to achieving lasting peace in the lake and its surrounding islets, known as “tumbuns.” Captain Mabiom also expressed gratitude for the ongoing support and cooperation from the local community.
