Court orders final forfeiture of Achimugu’s N8.9bn assets

A Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court in Apo, Abuja, has ordered the final forfeiture of assets worth over N8.9 billion linked to businesswoman Aisha Achimugu to the Federal Government.

The forfeited assets include jewellery valued at N4.645 billion, 11 exotic vehicles worth N4.293 billion, $50,000 in cash, and N30 million.

Justice Jude Onwugbuzie issued the forfeiture order on Thursday, July 16, 2026, while delivering judgment on an application filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The court held that the assets should be permanently forfeited to the Federal Government following the EFCC’s successful application, concluding the legal process over the properties linked to Achimugu.

The EFCC had sought the final forfeiture after obtaining an interim order and presenting evidence to justify the permanent confiscation of the assets in accordance with relevant provisions of the law. The ruling effectively transfers ownership of the jewellery, luxury vehicles, and cash to the Federal Government.
