Justice Chukujekwu Aneke of the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, has ordered the final forfeiture of five properties linked to Major-General U.M. Mohammed, former Managing Director of Nigerian Army Properties Limited (NAPL). The ruling was made on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, following a motion filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) through its lawyer, A.O. Mohammed.
The forfeited properties are located at:
- No. 8b, Bedwell Road, Ikoyi
- No. 3, Force Road, Ikoyi
- No. 14, Glover Road, Ikoyi
- No. 6, Marina, Ikoyi
- No. 28, Point Road, Apapa
Investigations revealed that these properties were fraudulently misappropriated, with proceeds from their sale diverted for personal use. On March 4, 2024, the court had ordered the interim forfeiture of the properties, suspecting them to be proceeds of unlawful activities, and directed that the order be published in a national newspaper to allow any interested parties to contest the forfeiture.
During the proceedings, Mohammed informed the court that the EFCC had complied with the publication order. He argued that it was in the interest of justice to grant the final forfeiture.
After reviewing the submissions, Justice Aneke ordered the properties’ final forfeiture to the Federal Government in favor of NAPL.
