Customs Boss prioritizes training and trade solutions with NIPSS

The Nigeria Customs Service has reiterated its dedication to enhancing the skills of its personnel through training at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) in Kuru, Jos. Acting Comptroller-General, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR, conveyed this commitment during a courtesy visit by Professor Ayo Omotayo, the Director General of NIPSS, and his management team to the Nigeria Customs Service Headquarters in Abuja on September 12, 2023.

The Acting Comptroller-General expressed gratitude for NIPSS’s pivotal role in advancing trade within Nigeria and pledged ongoing cooperation. He underscored their shared mission to devise scientific solutions for trade modeling and the monitoring of legitimate trade activities at entry and exit points. Recognizing the value of NIPSS’s training initiatives for Customs personnel, he called for a sustained partnership.

Professor Ayo Omotayo, in turn, congratulated the Acting Comptroller-General on his well-deserved appointment and conveyed their visit’s purpose – to discuss challenges impeding seamless trade facilitation. He urged the establishment of a data collection center for trade modeling and expressed optimism about Customs’ role in enhancing trade facilitation. Furthermore, he proposed the establishment of a pension institute for retired officers and extended an invitation to Customs to actively participate in NIPSS, fostering collaboration with other stakeholders to modernize trade in Nigeria.
