Customs strengthens leadership through appointments and redeployments

Following recent statutory retirements within the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Comptroller General of Customs (CGC) Bashir Adewale Adeniyi has undertaken decisive measures to strengthen the service’s leadership. In an official statement, National Public Relations Officer Chief Superintendent of Customs Abdullahi Maiwada highlighted that this initiative is aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and optimizing service delivery across various departments.

Maiwada stated that the CGC has appointed two management members in acting capacity and redeployed four others strategically to reinforce operations. These adjustments are designed to infuse renewed momentum into critical domains such as revenue generation, anti-smuggling, and trade facilitation.

He further disclosed that JP Ajoku has been appointed as Acting Deputy Comptroller General (DCG) for Strategic Research and Policy, while BM Jibo assumes the role of Acting DCG for Excise, Free Trade Zone, and Industrial Incentives. Additionally, IQ Ogbudu has been redeployed as Assistant Comptroller General (ACG) for Excise, Free Trade Zone, and Industrial Incentives, IO Babalola as ACG/Zonal Coordinator for Zone ‘B’, HJ Swomen as ACG/Zonal Coordinator for Zone ‘A’, and A Abdulazeez as Acting ACG/Zonal Coordinator for Zone ‘D’.

In a congratulatory address, the CGC praised the appointees for their dedication and urged them to embrace their new responsibilities with renewed commitment. He underscored the pivotal role of the NCS in advancing national interests and stressed the importance of upholding the highest standards of integrity, professionalism, and service delivery.

Maiwada reiterated the Nigeria Customs Service’s steadfast commitment to safeguarding the nation’s economic interests, facilitating international trade, and ensuring adherence to regulatory frameworks. He emphasized that with these strategic leadership reinforcements, the service is well-positioned to navigate evolving challenges and seize opportunities for growth and development.
