Former Senate President, Senator (Dr) David A.B. Mark, GCON, has formally resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), ending decades of affiliation with the party he once described as his political home.
In a letter addressed to the PDP Chairman of Ward 1, Otukpo Local Government Area, Mark expressed disappointment over the party’s persistent internal crises, which he said have eroded its credibility and reduced it to a “shadow of its former self.”
“For years, I remained committed to the ideals of the PDP, even when others left after the 2015 presidential defeat. I stayed back to rebuild and reposition the party,” the former Senate President wrote. “Unfortunately, recent developments marked by deepening divisions and irreconcilable differences have left the PDP in disarray.”
Senator Mark announced that, after wide consultations, he has decided to join the National Coalition of Political Opposition Movement in Nigeria, which he described as a collective platform aimed at rescuing the nation and defending its democracy.
Senator David Mark served as President of the 6th and 7th Senate and was one of the longest-serving lawmakers in Nigeria’s Fourth Republic.
