Dein of Agbor declares kingdom drug-free zone

The esteemed traditional ruler, Dein of Agbor, His Royal Majesty Benjamin Ikenchuku Gbenoba, has called for drug dealers to vacate his kingdom. In a significant move towards ridding his community of drug-related activities, Dein of Agbor has met with the Chairman/Chief Executive of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (Rtd).

During their meeting, Brig. Gen. Marwa assured the monarch of the NDLEA’s commitment to collaborating with traditional rulers and community leaders to combat substance abuse and illicit drug trafficking nationwide. “We are currently deploying our personnel to local government areas to establish our presence at the grassroots level,” Marwa stated. He emphasized the importance of a collective approach involving all stakeholders to successfully implement drug supply and demand reduction strategies.

The Dein of Agbor expressed his concerns about the impact of drug dealers in his community and his hope for a stronger NDLEA presence in Agbor. “We have faced challenges with drug dealers and have attempted to address it, but we need NDLEA’s support,” the monarch remarked. He praised General Marwa’s leadership and noted the agency’s reinvigorated efforts since Marwa took charge, which have already made drug dealers more cautious.

The monarch’s primary goal is to eradicate the activities of drug dealers to protect his people from the harmful effects of illicit substances. He reiterated his commitment to working with NDLEA to send a clear message to drug dealers that their operations are no longer welcome in Agbor.

Addressing the broader issue of drug abuse, the Dein of Agbor warned those involved in the drug trade and those consuming illicit drugs about the severe consequences. “If you are intelligent enough to sell drugs, use that intelligence for something positive,” he urged. He highlighted the link between drug abuse and increased crime rates, including kidnappings and robberies, and stressed the importance of choosing life over the potentially fatal consequences of drug use.

The Dein of Agbor’s strong stance against drug activities marks a significant step in the fight against drug abuse and trafficking in Delta State, setting a precedent for other communities to follow in safeguarding their citizens.
