Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, and the esteemed Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi, have emphasized the pivotal importance of unity, underscoring that the true beauty and strength of our nation lie in its rich diversity.
In a formal statement issued by the Special Adviser to the Deputy President of the Senate on Media and Publicity, Ismail Mudashir, it was highlighted that Senator Barau graciously welcomed the Oluwo of Iwo, a distinguished first-class traditional ruler in Osun State, to his office at the esteemed National Assembly in Abuja on Tuesday.
During their exchange, both dignitaries articulated the imperative for all Nigerians, irrespective of their regional backgrounds, to champion unity and diligently contribute to the nation’s advancement.
Senator Barau emphasized the indispensable role of traditional rulers in fostering unity, asserting that their proactive efforts are fundamental to the harmonious coexistence and progress of our nation.
“In recognizing the pivotal role of traditional rulers in advancing national unity and development, we earnestly encourage them to consistently leverage their influence to foster unity and cultivate peaceful coexistence among all citizens. Whether within their domains or beyond, traditional rulers should perpetually propagate messages of unity, peace, and tolerance,” Senator Barau remarked.
In his preceding remarks, the esteemed traditional ruler extolled the diversity that characterizes Nigeria, affirming it as our nation’s unique allure.
“Diversity is the essence of Nigeria’s beauty, epitomized by our population exceeding 200 million. Our collective unity is our greatest asset. It is why I, for instance, chose to marry my wife from Kano, symbolizing our commitment to national unity. We must uphold this unity steadfastly, now and in perpetuity,” the Oluwo of Iwo asserted.
Furthermore, he lauded the Deputy President of the Senate for his unwavering dedication to intervention and empowerment initiatives, expressing admiration for Senator Barau’s exemplary leadership.
“As President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is esteemed as the pride of Lagos and the South, I fervently pray for divine elevation for you, Senator, to become the pride not only of Kano but of the entire Northern region,” the Oluwo of Iwo conveyed, expressing his heartfelt appreciation.
