Dickson calls for unity, good governance

Former Bayelsa State Governor and Senator representing Bayelsa West, Henry Seriake Dickson, has called on Nigerians to renew their commitment to justice, equity, democracy, unity and equal opportunities as the country marks its 66th Independence Anniversary.

Dickson, in an Independence Day message, said the anniversary provided an opportunity to reflect on Nigeria’s journey since independence and honour the sacrifices of the country’s founding fathers and others who had contributed to national development.

He said the values of justice, equity, unity, democracy, equal opportunities and respect for the dignity of citizens must remain central to efforts to build a stronger Nigeria.

The former governor acknowledged the challenges facing the country but expressed confidence in the resilience of Nigerians and Nigeria’s potential for greater development.

According to him, the country’s diversity remains an important national asset, while citizens have a collective responsibility to preserve democracy, strengthen institutions and build a society where Nigerians can live with dignity and hope.

Dickson also congratulated Bayelsa State on its 30th anniversary, describing the state as an important contributor to Nigeria’s growth and development.

“As a proud son and former Governor of Bayelsa State, I join my fellow Bayelsans in celebrating this important milestone and honouring the contributions of our people to our nation,” he said.

He expressed optimism about the future of Bayelsa State and the capacity of its people to continue contributing meaningfully to Nigeria’s development.

On the country’s democratic process, Dickson said the Nigeria Democratic Congress remained committed to providing a platform for what he described as national renewal and presenting candidates at various levels who were committed to public service and good governance.

He said the party would seek the support of Nigerians for its candidates and expressed confidence that they would advance its stated vision if elected.

As Nigerians celebrate the Independence Anniversary, Dickson urged citizens to remain committed to the country and work collectively towards building a stronger, more united and prosperous nation.

He wished Nigerians a happy 66th Independence Anniversary and Bayelsans a happy 30th anniversary of the creation of the state, while praying for the continued progress of both Nigeria and Bayelsa State.
