The Force Commander of the ECOWAS Stabilisation Support Mission in Guinea-Bissau (ESSMGB), Brig.-Gen. Danjuma Ribah Dantani, has received a delegation of the Senegalese Armed Forces to assess the welfare and operational effectiveness of Senegalese personnel deployed in regional and international missions.
The delegation, led by the Inspector General of the Senegalese Armed Forces, Maj.-Gen. Philippe Dia, visited the mission’s Force Headquarters in Bissau on Thursday, October 22, 2026.
Dia said the visit was undertaken at the directive of the President of Senegal as part of efforts to monitor Senegalese military contingents and security personnel serving under the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), African Union (AU), United Nations (UN) and other operational frameworks.
He explained that the inspection focused on key aspects of personnel deployment, including administration, training, financial management and the general welfare of troops.
The Senegalese military chief commended Dantani for his leadership, dedication and commitment to the mission’s mandate of promoting and sustaining peace and stability in Guinea-Bissau.
In his response, Dantani expressed appreciation to the delegation, describing the visit as timely and encouraging.
He said such engagements were essential for assessing personnel welfare, identifying operational challenges and improving the effectiveness of deployed contingents.
The force commander acknowledged that no system was perfect but reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that the mission remained focused on achieving its objectives.
Activities marking the visit included the signing of the visitors’ book, the presentation of a commemorative memento and a group photograph.
The visit underscores Senegal’s commitment to monitoring its deployed personnel and supporting regional and international efforts to promote peace and security.
