Edo Govt condemns rape, murder of UNIBEN graduate

The Edo State Government has strongly condemned the alleged rape and murder of Adekolure Idowu Glory, a recent University of Benin (UNIBEN) graduate, in Iyowa Community, Benin City, on June 13, 2024. Glory, 22, was reportedly attacked while returning home from processing her clearance, tortured, raped, and her body abandoned near her mother’s house.

Edo State Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Chris Nehikhare, expressed shock and sadness over the incident. Governor Godwin Obaseki has mandated State Commissioner of Police, Funsho Adegboye, to identify and apprehend the perpetrators within seven days.

“The Edo State Government is shocked and deeply saddened by the gruesome murder of Adekolure Idowu Glory. This dastardly and unconscionable act is condemned in the strongest terms. Governor Obaseki extends his heartfelt condolences to the victim’s family and has directed a thorough investigation to ensure the culprits are brought to justice promptly,” the statement read.
