The Edo State Government has begun demolishing buildings linked to kidnapping activities in a decisive move to enhance security and curb crime.
The operation, carried out in Illeh (Esan West LGA) and Uromi (Esan North East LGA), was led by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security, Mr. Akhere Paul. He stated that the exercise aligns with a recently enacted law that mandates the demolition of properties used for kidnapping.
“This house was a hideout for criminals. The police recovered dangerous weapons here. Under the new anti-kidnapping law, such buildings will be demolished to deter others,” Akhere said, urging landlords to conduct thorough background checks on tenants.
Commander of the Special Task Force, SP Michael Anetor, reinforced that the initiative would continue to ensure a safer Edo State. He called on residents to report suspicious activities to security agencies.
Two arrested suspects, Utubor Uchenna and Felix Ebama, admitted using the demolished buildings as bases for their operations. They confessed to high-profile kidnappings, including a recent case where they extorted ₦10 million in ransom.
The Edo State Special Task Force, in collaboration with other security agencies, has intensified efforts to dismantle criminal networks, ensuring a safer environment for all residents.
