The Edo State Government has initiated a comprehensive two-week training program for over 1,500 hunters and personnel from the Edo State Vigilante Security Network, focusing on weapons handling and intelligence gathering. The training, which is the second batch, aims to strengthen the government’s endeavors in combating crime within the State.
Speaking to journalists at the Police Training College in Benin City, the Coordinator of the Edo State Security Network, Colonel Kole Oshoriamhe Omomia (Rtd), highlighted that the trainees were selected from the Edo Central and Edo South Senatorial districts. The first batch of the training had already been conducted for 574 operatives and hunters from the Edo North Senatorial district.
Colonel Omomia stated, “This two-week training program is designed to equip operatives and hunters of the Edo State Security Network with essential skills. The 1,500 participants from Edo Central and South senatorial districts will undergo intensive and comprehensive training.”
He further revealed that Governor Godwin Obaseki has contributed bikes for logistical support during the training, emphasizing the significance of security in the state. The government aims to create a secure environment for potential investors, and to ensure that newly recruited hunters and vigilantes are well-prepared and trained.
The Commander emphasized that the training would include a wide range of topics. Experts and resource persons will be involved to ensure the trainees’ physical fitness, mental preparedness, and proficiency in various areas such as weapons handling, patrols, stop and search operations, ambush tactics, and counter-terrorism.
Through this comprehensive training initiative, the Edo State Government is committed to enhancing the capabilities of its security forces and safeguarding the welfare of its citizens.
