In a decisive crackdown on cybercrime, the operatives of the Gombe Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have apprehended 27 individuals suspected of engaging in internet fraud. The operation, conducted on Thursday, February 22, 2024, targeted specific locations namely D&D Apartment and Bubes Hotel, situated in Yelwa, Bauchi State.
The arrest follows meticulous intelligence gathering which pointed towards the alleged involvement of the suspects in various internet-related offenses. Upon raiding the aforementioned premises, law enforcement officers successfully apprehended the suspects in question.
A notable haul of confiscated items was reported, underscoring the scale of the illicit activities allegedly perpetrated by the apprehended individuals. Among the seized possessions were a BMW car, numerous iPhones, iPads, laptops, and a desktop computer.
The EFCC has emphasized its commitment to thorough investigation procedures, ensuring that due process is followed. Consequently, the suspects will undergo comprehensive scrutiny as part of the investigative process. Once investigations are concluded, the apprehended individuals will be promptly arraigned before the appropriate judicial authorities to face charges related to their alleged involvement in internet fraud.
