EFCC arrests 14 suspected vote buyers in Imo, Bayelsa, Kogi States, intercepts N11,040,000

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has successfully apprehended 14 individuals suspected of engaging in vote-buying activities. The arrests took place in Otueke, Adawari playgrounds in Bayelsa State, and various polling units in Imo and Kogi States. The operation, guided by intelligence, spanned several days leading up to the governorship elections in these three states on Saturday, November 11, 2023.

During these operations, a substantial amount totaling N11,040,000 (Eleven Million, Forty Thousand Naira only) was seized. This sum comprises N9,310,000 (Nine Million, Three Hundred and Ten Thousand Naira) intercepted from suspected vote buyers and sellers in Bayelsa, and N1,730,000 (One Million, Seven Hundred and Thirty Thousand Naira) intercepted from individuals involved in electoral fraud in Imo State. Additionally, two vehicles linked to the suspects were intercepted.

Following these arrests, a thorough investigation is underway, and once concluded, the suspects will be promptly charged to court. The EFCC remains committed to upholding the integrity of the electoral process and combating financial crimes to ensure a transparent and fair democratic environment.
