EFCC arrests 44 suspected internet fraudsters in Kwara

The Ilorin Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has apprehended 44 individuals suspected of involvement in internet fraud across various locations in Ilorin, Kwara State.

The arrests, carried out on Friday, September 6, 2024, took place at Sango, Kulende, Taxaco, and Harmony Estate, all within Ilorin, following credible intelligence that linked the suspects to internet-related criminal activities.

During the operation, EFCC operatives seized several items, including six exotic cars of different brands, numerous laptops, smartphones, and charms believed to be used in their fraudulent activities. The arrested individuals are currently in EFCC custody and are undergoing interrogation as part of the ongoing investigation. The commission has indicated that the suspects will be charged to court once investigations are concluded.

This crackdown comes just two days after the same Ilorin Directorate arrested 56 other suspected internet fraudsters, highlighting the EFCC’s intensified efforts to curb cybercrime in the region. The commission continues to urge the public to provide useful information that can aid in the fight against internet fraud and other related crimes.
