EFCC arrests Benue Governor’s Aide over alleged sextortion and cyberbullying

Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Makurdi Zonal Directorate, have arrested Dr. Mkor Aondona, Special Adviser to the Governor of Benue State on Documentation, Research, and Planning, over serious allegations of sextortion, cyberbullying, and blackmail.

Dr. Aondona was arrested on Friday, June 20, 2025, in Makurdi following a petition filed by a group of female students who accused him of leveraging his position to coerce young women into non-consensual sexual activities under the guise of offering employment opportunities.

According to the petitioners, the governor’s aide frequently recruited “slim and attractive” female students for ushering roles at official events, allegedly making sexual favors a precondition for selection. It was further alleged that Dr. Aondona secretly recorded these sexual encounters without the victims’ knowledge or consent.

The victims also claim that he used the explicit videos to blackmail them, threatening to leak the footage if they refused to continue the sexual relationship. Several of these recordings, reportedly shared via various messaging platforms, are said to have already circulated online.

The EFCC has confirmed that Dr. Aondona remains in custody and will be formally charged in court upon conclusion of investigations.

The Commission reiterated its commitment to prosecuting all forms of sexual exploitation, especially when carried out by public officials entrusted with positions of responsibility.
