The Kaduna Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has apprehended an individual identified as Captain Nuhu Haruna for his suspected involvement in a significant financial impropriety amounting to N1,020,000,000 (One Billion, Twenty Million Naira).
The arrest was made following allegations of criminal breach of trust reported by a petitioner. According to the complainant, in December 2023, they engaged with the suspect for a foreign exchange transaction valued at N1,020,000.00. The petitioner claimed to have transferred the funds to the suspect’s account with the expectation of receiving its dollar equivalent. However, subsequent inquiries revealed that the promised exchange never materialized despite the suspect furnishing fabricated evidence of payment.
Preliminary investigations have uncovered that Haruna, purporting to be an airline captain, allegedly diverted the funds for personal gain. He reportedly utilized the ill-gotten gains to acquire properties and vehicles purportedly intended for the establishment of a purported airline company named Air Unity Aviation Services.
Notable among the assets traced to the suspect include a landed property acquired at the cost of N155,000,000 (One Hundred and Fifty Five Million Naira), another property purchased for N350,000 (Three Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira), as well as three 18-seater Toyota Hiace buses branded with the logo of Air Unity Aviation Services, and four luxury vehicles.
Pending the conclusion of investigations, the suspect will be duly arraigned in court to answer for the alleged offenses.
