EFCC chairman seeks end to corruption, social injustice

The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Ola Olukoyede, has emphatically called for an end to corruption, social injustice, deprivation, and discord throughout the nation. Mr. Olukoyede made this plea on Thursday in Abuja, during a courtesy visit by a delegation from the Public Complaints Commission (PCC) to the corporate headquarters of the EFCC.

In his address, Mr. Olukoyede underscored the pivotal role that corruption, injustice, and entrenched deprivation play in fueling crises and discord within the country. He emphasized the necessity for equity and fairness to underpin any effective societal system, stating, “Corruption is the underlying factor of injustice. We should bridge the gap that is causing injustice. Social rancor is also caused by injustice. We must come together to rid our nation of injustice caused by corruption. What is good for one is good for all.”

Mr. Olukoyede issued a challenge to the leadership of the PCC, urging them to work diligently to garner the support of the Nigerian populace. He asserted, “We expect your leadership to bring your Commission to great heights. Let your work commend you to Nigerians.” The EFCC Chairman also advocated for the formalization of the relationship between EFCC and PCC through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), expressing the commitment to fortify the existing collaboration between the two commissions.

Chief Commissioner of PCC, Abimbola Ayo Yusuf, extended congratulations to Mr. Olukoyede on his appointment and called for an enhanced collaboration between the two commissions to address administrative injustices and corrupt practices in both public and private organizations. Yusuf emphasized the shared focus and mandate of PCC and EFCC, stating, “This is why we need to deepen our working relationship; even our law empowers us to be the official whistleblower to your Commission and other law enforcement agencies.”

Furthermore, Yusuf requested the designation of a desk officer within the EFCC, assuring that PCC is well-positioned with offices in 550 Area Offices across the 774 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Nigeria. The collaborative efforts between EFCC and PCC are poised to strengthen, reflecting a united front in the pursuit of eradicating corruption and injustice within the nation.
