The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) acknowledges recent coverage in a prominent national publication titled “EFCC Stopped Service of Charges on Binance Chief, FIRS Alleges.” It is imperative to address this report as it contains inaccuracies and misrepresents the facts pertinent to ongoing legal proceedings.
Contrary to the assertions made in the article, the EFCC categorically denies any interference with the service of charges upon individuals associated with Binance, a matter currently under judicial review. There has been no instance where a court bailiff approached the EFCC to serve such charges to any Binance executive in our custody.
During the most recent court session, counsel representing the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Mr. Moses Ideh, did not present any complaint alleging obstruction of service by the EFCC. Rather, Mr. Ideh informed the court that the FIRS had yet to effect service upon the defendants.
The EFCC views the aforementioned news report as both unfounded and misleading. Such misrepresentation is not only regrettable but also undermines the integrity of the legal process. We urge the public to disregard this baseless speculation entirely.
The agency said they remain committed to upholding the principles of justice and due process, and we trust that the ongoing legal proceedings will be conducted impartially and in accordance with the law.
