The Lagos Command of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) is eager to strengthen its partnership with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) by enhancing the sharing of credible intelligence. This initiative was discussed during a courtesy visit on Thursday, September 7, 2023, when Bala A. Dangana, the Controller of NIS, Lagos Command, met with the EFCC’s Lagos Zonal Command.
Dangana expressed the desire for deeper cooperation between the NIS and EFCC in the realm of sharing valuable intelligence to combat economic and financial crimes effectively. He emphasized the importance of interaction and intelligence exchange as vital tools in safeguarding the nation against criminal activities, saying, “We want to interact with you and share intelligence that will assist in policing the country. I crave your indulgence for a cordial relationship, so we can pool our resources and ideas to combat crimes in our society.”
In response, Michael T. Wetkas, the Lagos Zonal Commander of the EFCC, applauded the NIS for the support the EFCC had received over the years. Wetkas acknowledged the ongoing collaboration and encouraged the NIS to continue providing support in the most effective way possible. He also emphasized the positive history of cooperation between the two agencies, stating, “The Nigeria Immigration Service has been one of our strongest partners, and we have never had an issue of rivalry with the service.”
