The family of former Kaduna State Governor and African Democratic Congress (ADC) opposition leader, Mallam Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, has given Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (retd.), seven days to substantiate or retract an allegation that El-Rufai planned killings in Southern Kaduna while serving as governor.
The family made the demand in a statement issued by Hon. Mohammed Bello El-Rufaion on September 7, 2026, in response to comments allegedly made by Musa during a live edition of Politics Today on Channels Television on September 3.
According to the family, the minister accused the former governor of actively planning killings in Southern Kaduna but failed to provide evidence to support the claim.
The statement, signed by Hon. Mohammed Bello El-Rufai on behalf of the family, described the allegation as grave and unsubstantiated, stressing that serious accusations of criminal conduct should be backed by credible evidence.
“While General Musa (Rtd.) is entitled to hold and express his personal opinions, the El-Rufai family is equally entitled to demand that such serious allegations be substantiated with credible evidence,” the family said.
It consequently demanded that the Defence Minister either provide evidence supporting the allegation or publicly retract it and issue a full apology through the same medium on which the claim was made.
The family gave Musa a seven-day deadline from the date of the statement to comply, warning that failure to do so would compel it to pursue “all appropriate legal remedies available under the law.”
The development adds to the growing political and public controversy surrounding allegations relating to the former Kaduna governor’s administration and the long-running security challenges in Southern Kaduna.
The El-Rufai family maintained that it was prepared to defend the former governor against what it described as unsubstantiated allegations and would seek legal redress if the claim was not withdrawn.
