Enhancing National Security: FRSC/NCS ready for immediate integration of national vehicle information database

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) have embarked on a highly productive collaboration aimed at bolstering national security and reducing revenue loss. The two government agencies have initiated an extensive integration of their vehicle databases, marking a significant step forward in their joint efforts.

In a jointly signed statement by Assistant Corps Marshal Bisi Kazeem, the Corps Public Education Officer of FRSC Headquarters Abuja, and Chief Superintendent of Customs Abdullahi Maiwada, the National Public Relations Officer of NCS Headquarters Abuja, the collaboration was formalized during the visit of Acting Comptroller General of Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, to the national headquarters of the Federal Road Safety Corps, headed by Corps Marshal Dauda Ali Biu, on Thursday.

During the visit, the Acting Comptroller General reiterated NCS’s unwavering commitment to collaborating with the Corps, with a focus on human resource development, information and communication technology, as well as sports. One of the crucial aspects of this collaboration involves consolidating and sharing vehicle information from both agencies, which will prove instrumental in combating vehicle smuggling, boosting revenue generation, and fortifying national security.

In response, the Corps Marshal warmly welcomed the initiative and emphasized that the data sharing and cooperation between the two agencies would not only strengthen their ties but also yield positive outcomes in the fight against vehicle smuggling. Furthermore, Dauda Biu stressed that this partnership would facilitate ease of doing business, making it simpler for the Corps to track vehicles lacking customs duty certificates at the point of registration.

In this context, Biu urged CG Bashir Adewale to prioritize enforcing restrictions on the importation of vehicles that exceed the specified legal age limit at the time of importation. Additionally, he highlighted the dangers posed by using secondhand tires and called for stricter enforcement of the ban on the importation of hazardous tires into the country. By addressing these concerns, the collaboration between FRSC and NCS would have a more comprehensive impact on overall road safety and public welfare.
