At a stakeholder meeting in Abuja, IOM Chief of Mission Paola Pace highlighted the program’s significant impact since its launch in 2021. “IOM is proud to have supported policy dialogues on Nigeria’s National Climate Change Policy, ensuring local voices are included in shaping climate adaptation priorities. Thanks to the EU’s €10.5 million grant, these efforts are sustainable and future-focused,” Pace said. She emphasized the progress made toward community empowerment, peacebuilding, and economic stability in Adamawa and Taraba.
The EU Political Officer for Politics, Press, and Information, Agnieszka Torres Del Oliveira, reaffirmed the EU’s commitment to peace and security in the region. Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, represented by Chief of Staff Dr. Edgar Amos, applauded the project’s success, noting improved agricultural stability and peaceful coexistence between communities. “COMITAS has brought positive changes, enabling peaceful dialogue and better access to essential services, including solar-powered water resources,” he said, expressing gratitude for EU and IOM’s continued support.
Similarly, Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas, represented by Chief of Staff Dr. Jeji Williams, acknowledged the project’s role in reducing farmer-herder conflicts in the region, with hopes for further expansion to other affected areas.
The COMITAS initiative, a collaboration between IOM, Mercy Corps, and Search for Common Ground, continues to foster social cohesion, strengthen livelihoods, and support sustainable peace efforts across Adamawa and Taraba states.
