The Federal Government has dismissed a purported list of ambassadorial nominees circulating on social media, labeling it as fake and unapproved by President Bola Tinubu.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Kimiebi Ebienfa, acting spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, clarified that the appointment of ambassadors remains solely the prerogative of the President.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs wishes to inform the general public to kindly disregard the fake list of ambassadorial nominees currently in circulation on some social media platforms,” the statement read. “The Ministry wishes to state unequivocally that the appointment of Ambassadors is the prerogative of Mr. President and no such appointments have been made in this regard. The purported list should, therefore, be discountenanced.”
The clarification comes as Nigerians await the appointment of ambassadors to foreign missions following President Tinubu’s directive last year recalling all Nigerian ambassadors to the country.
