FG intensifies response to Ebola case in Abuja

The Federal Government has intensified public health response measures following the reported case of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), strengthening efforts to contain the infection and prevent further transmission.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs disclosed this in a press statement issued in Abuja on Thursday and signed by its spokesperson, Oluwafemi Adeniyi.

According to the statement, information provided by the Federal Ministry of Health indicated that the case involved a woman who arrived on an international flight from Uganda and was subsequently admitted to a private hospital a few days before her diagnosis.

The patient is currently in isolation and receiving treatment under the supervision of the Federal Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the FCT Health Services Secretariat and other relevant agencies.

The government said contact-tracing operations had commenced, with identified contacts placed under monitoring and appropriate public health measures being implemented.

The exercise covers individuals linked to the patient, including those associated with her travel, as authorities work to identify potential exposure and prevent further spread of the disease.

The government also said measures had been put in place to strengthen public health surveillance, improve the identification of potential cases and reinforce infection prevention and control procedures.

It urged Nigerians and other residents to remain calm, avoid speculation and misinformation, and rely exclusively on verified updates from official government channels.

The statement reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to protecting the health and well-being of Nigerians and all residents, adding that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs would continue to liaise with relevant national institutions and stakeholders in support of the coordinated response.

Further updates, the ministry said, would be issued through official channels as verified information became available.

The government appealed for public cooperation as health authorities continued efforts to contain the infection and safeguard public health.
