FG launches NINAuth for secure digital identity verification

The Federal Government has approved the rollout of NINAuth, a new digital platform designed to streamline and secure identity verification for Nigerians across government services.

In line with President Bola Tinubu’s directive, all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) are now mandated to adopt NIN-based verification and authentication to strengthen the National Identity Management System and improve service delivery.

In a statement on Tuesday, Dr. Kayode Adegoke, spokesman for the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), announced that the NIN Authentication (NINAuth) platform offers a suite of services — including web, API, and mobile verification tools — aimed at enhancing data security, safeguarding privacy, and simplifying citizen access to key services.

“The NINAuth application introduces a robust layer of protection, giving individuals greater control over their personal information by requiring explicit consent before any data is shared,” Adegoke said. This approach supports transparency, user autonomy, and builds trust in digital identity management, he added.

With NINAuth, citizens can securely verify their identity for a range of services including SIM registration and replacement, passport processing, tax filings, driver’s license renewals, financial transactions, and access to various government intervention programs.

Key features of the platform include enhanced security to protect personal data, user control over data-sharing preferences, and seamless single sign-on access to multiple services.

According to NIMC, NINAuth also provides a scalable, interoperable interface for real-time authentication of NIN records through API integration — a move expected to promote database harmonization and ensure compliance with Nigeria’s National Identity Policy.

The NIMAuth service has been designated as the exclusive platform for all NIN-based verification and authentication processes. Nigerians can download the NINAuth app on Google Play Store and Apple App Store, while implementation guides and process flows are available at https://ninauth.nimc.gov.ng.
