FG set to optimize FAAN’s revenue-generating capacity

Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has conveyed the Federal Government’s strong commitment to enhancing the operational capacity of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN). During his recent visit to the Lagos Airport facility, Minister Keyamo emphasized that 60% of FAAN’s revenue is generated from Lagos, underscoring the imperative of maximizing the utilization of the newly constructed terminal.

Keyamo highlighted that the new terminal boasts an impressive 60 check-in points and is well-equipped to handle a significant influx of air traffic. Furthermore, he emphasized the urgent need for a comprehensive overhaul of the old terminal, citing critical issues such as the malfunctioning central cooling system and extensive dilapidation requiring immediate attention. In a decisive move, he directed all airlines currently operating in the old terminal to relocate their check-in counters to the new terminal within the next three months.

Regarding the concession of airports and the Nigeria Air project, Minister Keyamo announced that these initiatives would be temporarily suspended pending his briefing with Mr. President. While expressing his commitment to safeguarding the interests of local airlines, he stressed the importance of their enhanced efficiency and effectiveness. Minister Keyamo pledged to address issues related to flight cancellations and delays and to enforce relevant laws where necessary. Additionally, he issued a directive for the removal of unserviceable aircraft by their owners to facilitate the expansion of the airport apron.

In a bid to create space for accommodating larger aircraft within the expanded terminal, Minister Keyamo expressed his intention to engage in discussions with the owners of private hangars located in the vicinity, exploring the possibility of their relocation.
