In a bid to bolster defense collaboration and enhance mutual cooperation, the Federal Government of Nigeria has expressed its readiness to partner with the Government of Denmark. This announcement was made by Dr. Bello Muhammed Matawalle MON, the Minister of State for Defence, during a visit by Denmark’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Ambassador Sune Krogstrup, to Ship House.
Historically, the relationship between Nigeria and Denmark has been characterized by a strong bond of friendship, predominantly in the realm of business, with defense cooperation being less prominent. Dr. Matawalle emphasized the need to diversify this relationship and elevate the level of cooperation in the defense sector.
“It’s high time for Nigeria and Denmark to deepen mutual cooperation, and the Ministry is open for partnerships and collaborations aimed at promoting peace and security in Nigeria,” Dr. Matawalle declared during his remarks.
Dr. Matawalle further emphasized the importance of convening technical teams from both countries to engage in constructive discussions. The primary objective of these discussions would be to formulate a viable framework for advancing defense cooperation, enhancing equipment provisions, and fostering the exchange of intelligence between Nigeria and Denmark.
Ambassador Sune Krogstrup, in his earlier remarks, highlighted the purpose of their visit. He underlined the aspiration to broaden their understanding of potential defense cooperation initiatives and to strengthen the already robust relationship between the two nations.
The proposed collaboration between Nigeria and Denmark in the field of defense is poised to deepen diplomatic ties and promote regional peace and security. As both nations move towards establishing a solid foundation for defense cooperation, further details and developments are anticipated in the near future.
