FRSC launches operation zero tolerance for tear-rnd travels

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has rolled out Operation Zero Tolerance to ensure safe and seamless year-end travels across Nigeria.

According to Assistant Corps Marshal, Corps Public Education Officer FRSC Headquarters, AbujaOlusegun Ogungbemide beginning December 15, 2024, and running until January 15, 2025, the initiative deploys the Corps’ entire workforce, including Special Marshals, and an extensive range of resources to reduce road traffic accidents and congestion during the busy travel season.

The FRSC’s logistics include 1,102 operational vehicles, comprising 157 administrative vehicles, 754 patrol vehicles, 143 ambulances, and 48 tow trucks, Deployment of radar guns to curb speed violations. and activation of 16 traffic control camps, 23 Help Areas, and 59 Emergency Ambulance (Zebra) Points.

Critical road corridors covered include Sokoto-Tambuwal-Jega-Birnin Kebbi, Abuja-Kaduna-Kano, Sagamu-Mowe-Lagos, Asaba-Ughelli-Warri, and more.

Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed mandated 24/7 surveillance in high-traffic areas, full utilization of roadside clinics, and continuous traffic updates via National Traffic Radio 107.1 FM. The operation also features round-the-clock shifts, including night rescue teams, to ensure prompt response to emergencies.

Addressing common risks during the festive season—such as increased traffic, overloading, impatience, and use of defective vehicles—the Corps Marshal emphasized strict enforcement of laws against speeding, dangerous driving, and vehicle violations. Mobile courts have been constituted nationwide to prosecute offenders.

The operation complements the ongoing ember months campaign, focusing on traffic decongestion, public education, and enforcement. Motorists are encouraged to report traffic situations via the FRSC Mobile App, toll-free number 122, or social media platforms.
