In a historic development on January 30, 2024, Headquarters Joint Task Force (JTF) North East (NE) witnessed the formal transition of command in Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK). The outgoing Theatre Commander, Major General Gold Chibuisi, handed over the reins to the incoming Theatre Commander, Major General W. Shaibu, at the Headquarters Theatre Command Maimalari Cantonment in Maiduguri.
During his address to the troops of OPHK at the ceremony, General Chibuisi emphasized the importance of sustaining the current momentum in the fight against terrorists. He urged the troops to extend their unwavering support to the new Theatre Commander, Major General Shaibu, with the aim of achieving continued success by eliminating the remnants of terrorists and fostering sustainable peace in the North East region. General Chibuisi also emphasized the necessity for the troops to adhere to the rules of engagement at all times.
Seizing the opportunity, General Gold expressed his gratitude to the Chief of Defence Staff, General CG Musa, and the Service Chiefs for entrusting him with the responsibility to serve in that capacity. He also extended appreciation to the Executive Governors of Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe States, as well as the residents of these states, for their effective collaboration and support in the operations. General Chibuisi acknowledged their pivotal role in both the kinetic and non-kinetic actions that facilitated the surrender of several repentant terrorists across the theatre.
In addition, General Gold commended the troops for their resilience, humanitarian organizations for their contributions, and the press for their impactful reportage, which he credited for showcasing the achievements of OPHK to the Nigerian populace.
The event encompassed various activities, including briefings for the incoming Theatre Commander, presentation of souvenirs, a farewell address to the troops, the signing of handing and taking over notes, group photographs, and a farewell handshake by the outgoing Theatre Commander. Distinguished attendees included the outgoing GOC 7 Division Nigerian Army, Major General PP Malla, Commander Sector 2 OPHK, Major General MLD Saraso, outgoing Commander Sector 3, Major General WM Dangana, incoming Acting GOC 7 Division Nigerian Army, Brigadier General AGL Haruna, Component Commanders, Principal Staff Officers, and foreign Liaison Officers, among others.
