In a recent courtesy visit to the Headquarters Theatre Command at Maimalari Cantonment, Maiduguri, Maj Gen W Shaibu, the Theatre Commander Joint Task Force (JTF) North East Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), emphasized the critical role of air power in contemporary warfare. The visit, which took place today, saw Air Officer Commanding (AOC) Tactical Air Command (TAC) Air Vice Marshal (AVM) FO Edosa in attendance.
Acting Deputy Director Army Public Relations Headquarters Theatre Command, Captain Reuben Kovangiya, relayed Gen Shaibu’s acknowledgment of the significant achievements in the ongoing counter-terrorism operations, attributing them to robust air support. Gen Shaibu highlighted the collaborative efforts that led to these successes and urged for sustained support to bolster operational effectiveness and thwart terrorist activities.
Gen Shaibu further elaborated on the contributions of the Air Component of OPHK, citing intelligence surveillance, reconnaissance, and air strikes targeting terrorist strongholds across the theatre of operations. These efforts, he noted, have substantially degraded the capabilities of terrorist groups. Gen Shaibu expressed gratitude for the AOC’s visit, underscoring the importance of synergy between ground and air forces.
AVM FO Edosa, explaining the purpose of his visit, emphasized the necessity of joint operations in achieving operational objectives. He commended the Theatre Commander for his leadership and assured continued support and collaboration from the air component to ensure the success of the operation. AVM Edosa also pledged to address any challenges outlined by Gen Shaibu.
The visit included ceremonial formalities such as a presentation quarter guard, signing of the visitor’s book, exchange of mementos, and group photographs, underscoring the camaraderie and shared commitment towards securing the region.
The visit not only reaffirmed the crucial role of air power in modern warfare but also highlighted the importance of coordinated efforts between different branches of the armed forces in achieving strategic objectives in conflict zones.
