The Governor of Kebbi State, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu has expressed his condolences to the families of the three individuals tragically lost to a flood in Dakingari Headquarters of Suru Local Government Area. His Chief Press Secretary, Ahmed Idris, conveyed the governor’s heartfelt sympathies to the affected families during a visit to Dakingari on Monday.
Governor Idris advised both the affected families and the Local Government Council to embrace the will of God with grace and acceptance in this difficult time. He also extended his sympathy to those who sustained injuries and experienced damage to their homes.
In a gesture of support, the governor pledged a donation of Forty Million Naira (N40 million) to assist the flood victims. He specifically directed that each of the families who lost a loved one be provided with Five Hundred Thousand Naira (N500,000) each. To ensure fair distribution, he instructed the council chairman to establish a committee for this purpose.
Governor Idris assured the community that the state government, in collaboration with the Ministry of Works and the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy, would work diligently to find a lasting solution to the recurring flood problem. He emphasized the importance of constructing channels in flood-prone areas to facilitate the unobstructed flow of water into rivers.
The flood had a significant impact, affecting 315 houses in the area.
In response to the governor’s visit and timely intervention, Alhaji Muhammad Lawal-Suru, the Chairman of Suru Local Government, expressed his gratitude. He gave his word that the donated funds and all flood-related relief efforts would be administered judiciously.
Malam Jafaru Aliero, the Lamido of Dakingari, also conveyed his appreciation to the governor. He confirmed that the flood had been an annual occurrence in the area, and previous administrations had been unsuccessful in addressing the issue. Nevertheless, he expressed delight at the governor’s prompt response and unwavering commitment to resolving their ongoing plight.
Governor Idris made a stopover at Rijiya Maikabbi village in Dandi Local Government Area to offer his support to flood victims, donating Ten Million Naira (N10m) to assist them.
Among those present during these visits were the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Yakubu Bala-Tafida, Head of Service, Alhaji Safiyanu Garba-Bena, Hon. Commissioners, Special Advisers, and other prominent stakeholders.
