Gun trucks: Not intended for law-abiding citizens, but for criminal elements – Audi

The Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Dr. Ahmed Audi, emphasized the imperative of respecting the human rights of all law-abiding Nigerians during the commissioning of three newly acquired gun trucks by the NSCDC Federal Capital Territory Command. He underscored that these gun trucks are intended solely for targeting criminal elements, not law-abiding civilians.

In addressing his personnel, Audi emphasized the importance of employing the acquired assets judiciously, cautioning against any misuse or intimidation of civilians. He reiterated that the fundamental human rights of every Nigerian must be upheld, with the primary focus being on apprehending individuals who pose a threat to the safety and security of the nation.

Audi articulated, “These gun trucks must not be utilized for the intimidation or harassment of civilians. They are to be deployed solely against those individuals who disrupt the peace and security of our nation. It is imperative that all actions undertaken with these resources are in alignment with the principles of respect and adherence to human rights, in collaboration with our sister agencies.”

Expressing gratitude for the support received from Audi, the Commandant of the FCT Command, Olusola Odumosu, acknowledged the significance of the newly acquired assets in enhancing the operational capabilities of the command. He reaffirmed the commitment of the command to combatting crime effectively within the Federal Capital Territory.

Odumosu further appealed for additional support from relevant authorities to bolster the operational capacity of the command, emphasizing the necessity for adequate equipment and infrastructure to effectively carry out their mandate. He highlighted the importance of collaborative efforts in ensuring the safety and security of residents within the FCT.

In response to the appeal, the representative of the Minister of FCT, Nyesom Wike, reiterated the commitment of the administration to supporting security agencies in the region. He encouraged the tactical squad to utilize the provided resources efficiently in safeguarding the territory and its critical infrastructure.

Additionally, the Commandant General inaugurated a newly constructed furnished accommodation in Kwali Area Council, FCT, underscoring the importance of collaborative efforts in enhancing security and welfare initiatives within local communities.
