ICPC Case: Immigration officer sentenced to seven years for passport fraud

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has successfully secured the conviction of Mr. Quadri Ismail Adeyinka, an officer with the Nigeria Immigration Service, for his involvement in a passport fraud scheme.

Mr. Adeyinka was arraigned before Justice Jude Onwuegbuzie of the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Apo, Abuja, on a four-count charge. The charges included gratification, conferment of corrupt advantage, and cheating, all of which are violations under the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000, and the Penal Code Act.

During the trial, ICPC Counsel Dr. Osuobeni Ekoi Akponimisingha presented evidence demonstrating how Mr. Adeyinka defrauded Mr. Ovie Justice Ojeffia. Adeyinka had accepted N100,000.00 (One Hundred Thousand Naira) from Ojeffia under the pretense of regularizing his international passport but failed to fulfill the agreement.

Following a petition from the victim, the ICPC launched an investigation that culminated in Adeyinka’s arraignment. Justice Onwuegbuzie found Mr. Adeyinka guilty on all four counts. Consequently, Adeyinka received a seven-year sentence for each of the first two counts, a five-year sentence for the fourth count, and a two-year sentence for the third count. The sentences will run concurrently.
