ICPC encourages tertiary institution students to report cases of sexual harassment without fear

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) emphasizes the importance of students in Nigerian tertiary institutions coming forward to report incidents of sexual harassment without hesitation.

This directive was conveyed during a comprehensive one-day sensitization workshop on Sexual Harassment in Tertiary Education Institutions, conducted at the ICPC’s headquarters on a recent Wednesday.

In his opening statement, Mr. Clifford Oparaodu, the Secretary to the Commission, highlighted a critical impediment in the ongoing efforts to combat sexual harassment within tertiary institutions. He underscored the prevalent reluctance among victims to report such incidents, attributing it to the pervasive fear of stigmatization or the possibility of facing additional victimization. The Secretary urged students to overcome these concerns, assuring them that their reports would be handled with utmost confidentiality and sensitivity.
