IGP commends EFCC Chairman for outstanding performance

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has extended commendation to Mr. Ola Olukoyede, the Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), for his exemplary efforts in combating economic and financial crimes as well as acts of corruption during his tenure. The accolades were conveyed during a courtesy visit by Olukoyede to the Force Headquarters in Abuja on Monday.

Egbetokun, in his remarks, welcomed Olukoyede and conveyed congratulations on his appointment. He praised the EFCC Chairman, stating, “You are doing well, and Mr. President has a lot of confidence in you.” The Inspector General expressed satisfaction with the EFCC’s performance, characterizing the Commission as a commendable offspring of the Police. He assured continued support, emphasizing, “We are proud to have the EFCC as our child. We will continue to support you.”

During his address, Olukoyede acknowledged the crucial role played by the Police in nurturing the EFCC from its inception. He expressed satisfaction with the existing synergy between the two agencies and sought increased support, cooperation, and collaboration given the specialized nature of their respective mandates.

Drawing attention to operational concerns, Olukoyede proposed the establishment of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Police and the EFCC. The purpose of such an agreement would be to address issues related to the overlapping of operations, ensuring more efficient utilization of resources and preventing redundant investigations. He stated, “There is no need to dissipate energy investigating similar cases. We can come up with an MoU to properly address such issues.”

Olukoyede also emphasized the importance of fostering better mutual understanding between the EFCC and the Police, pledging that the EFCC would continue to leverage its relationship with the Police to enhance collaboration. The proposed MoU, he believes, will serve as a framework for addressing operational challenges and optimizing the effectiveness of both law enforcement agencies.
