In a formal address at the IGP’s Conference Hall, Force Headquarters, Abuja, on Thursday, January 18, 2024, Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Adeolu Egbeokun, expressed commendation for the exceptional service rendered by the Explosive Ordnance Disposal – Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) Unit. The gathering included EOD-CBRN Commanders and Directing Staff.
In Statement Force Public Relations Officer Force Headquarters, Abuja ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi said the IGP underscored the critical role played by the unit in safeguarding the nation against evolving threats associated with explosive materials. He particularly highlighted their pivotal contribution during the Boko Haram insurgency, acknowledging their efforts in curbing incessant bombing activities.
Among the notable achievements mentioned by the IGP were the safe rendering of an Anti-disturbance Improvised Explosive Device (IED) at the University of Maiduguri and successful road clearance operations in various locations in Borno State. These operations facilitated the reintegration of citizens into their ancestral homes. Additionally, the Unit received acknowledgment for its swift response, recovering five IEDs from an unregistered vehicle while neutralizing three members of a separatist group in Anambra State.
Addressing the evolving security challenges across the country, the IGP urged EOD Commanders to be proactive, vigilant, and responsive in monitoring the entire spectrum of explosives – from production and importation to storage, transportation, distribution, and usage. He emphasized the imperative for professionalism in combating armed and violent criminals.
Expressing unwavering confidence in the abilities and dedication of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Units, the IGP reiterated the commitment of the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) under his leadership to invest in training and equipping EOD personnel with the latest technologies, thereby enhancing their capabilities.
