The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, on Tuesday decorated newly promoted senior officers of the Nigeria Police Force, charging them to provide ethical, results-driven leadership in the discharge of their duties.
In a statement Force Public Relations Officer, Force Headquarters, Abuja CSP Benjamin Hundeyin said the decoration ceremony, held at the Peacekeeping Hall, Force Headquarters, Abuja, featured the elevation of one Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) to Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG), seven Commissioners of Police (CPs) to AIGs, and 13 Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) to substantive CPs.
Those decorated included DIG Mohammed Usaini Gumel; AIGs Ihebom M. Chukwuma, Olatokunbo Maxwell Olabisi, Abaniwonda Surajudeen Olufemi, Lawal Babatunde Ayodeji, Emmanuel Agene, Alonyenu Francis Iduh, and Vungmoh S. M. Kwaimo; as well as CPs Johnson Ayodeji Babalola, Adepegba K. Adetoye, Tabitha Bako, Umar Ali Fagge, Audu Garba Bosso, Edwin Esiunnoh Ogbeghegha, Arikpo Ofem Ikpi, Cyril Uchenna Obiozo, Samuel Yerima Gimba, Alhaji Mohammed Danladi, Richard Bala Gara, Lasisi A. Titilola, and Obuagbaka C. John.
The promotions followed what police authorities described as a rigorous and transparent exercise conducted by the Police Service Commission (PSC), which approved the promotion of 1,210 officers nationwide.
Addressing the officers, the IGP said the promotions reflected institutional trust and confidence in their leadership capacity and readiness for higher responsibility. He commended the PSC for its diligence and transparency in the exercise and acknowledged the sacrifices and support of the families of the promoted officers.
Egbetokun urged the senior officers to justify their elevation by upholding professionalism, improving operational performance, and strengthening public trust in the Nigeria Police Force.
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including the Governors of Delta and Jigawa states, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Francis Orohwedor Oborevwori and Mallam Umar Namadi; a member of the House of Representatives, Hon. S.M.A. Gworozo Nupe; former Edo State Deputy Governor and Director-General of the National Institute for Sports, Philip Shaibu; and the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, alongside members of the Force Management Team, senior police officers, and well-wishers.
