The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has ordered the deployment of the Deputy Inspector-General of Police (Operations), Shehu Umar Nadada, to Kaduna State following a deadly attack on Ariko Village near Gurara Dam.
The development was disclosed in a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, Anthony Okon Placid, at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
The directive came after armed bandits, on April 5, 2026, reportedly attacked ECWA and Catholic churches in the community, firing indiscriminately. The incident left five persons dead, while about 14 others were abducted.
In response, the police chief mandated an immediate operational intervention, tasking the DIG Operations to assess the situation on ground and coordinate security measures aimed at restoring order and facilitating the rescue of the abducted victims.
During the ongoing operation, the team led by Nadada, working in collaboration with the Nigerian Army and the Department of State Services (DSS), successfully rescued seven of the kidnapped victims.
The victims were subsequently taken to Katari Hospital for medical attention and are reported to be in stable condition, pending reunion with their families.
The IGP reaffirmed the commitment of security agencies to securing the release of the remaining victims and bringing the perpetrators to justice.
He also urged members of the public to remain vigilant, cooperate with security agencies, and provide credible information that could assist ongoing operations.
