IGP orders deployment of additional resources for off-cycle elections amidst caution against disorderly conduct

The Inspector-General of Police, Dr. Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, NPM, has taken proactive measures to ensure a seamless electoral process during the upcoming off-cycle Gubernatorial elections in Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi States, slated for November 11, 2023. In a bid to fortify security arrangements for these critical electoral events, the IGP has issued orders for the distribution of an additional 220 operational vehicles, which includes water cannons, Armored Personnel Carriers, helmets, bulletproof vests, and tear gas canisters to the three aforementioned states.

According to Force Public Relations Officer Force Headquarters, Abuja ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the IGP had coordinated extensive training programs for the police personnel responsible for election security management in preparation for these elections. Additionally, he has sought the approval of the Federal Government for the disbursement of allowances and other essential support to enhance the morale of these officers during their operational duties.

The Inspector-General of Police emphasizes the importance of peace and adherence to the rule of law for all stakeholders in the states of Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi. He urges everyone to uphold these principles and conduct themselves in a law-abiding manner throughout the entire electoral process – before, during, and after the elections. The Police, alongside other security agencies, have been placed on high alert to prevent any unruly behavior that could disrupt the electoral proceedings in any of the three states.
