The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has ordered strengthened security measures and intensified intelligence-led operations following the terrorist attack on the Rafin Makuku axis of Sakaba Local Government Area of Kebbi State, which claimed the lives of 10 police officers and other civilians.
In a statement, Force Public Relations Officer Force Headquarters, Abuja CSP Ani Iniedu said in line with the directive, the IGP on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, deployed a delegation led by the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, DIG Umar Shehu Nadada, to Kebbi State to engage the state government and other stakeholders on measures to address the security situation.
The delegation also reviewed ongoing operations and strategies aimed at preventing further attacks, protecting vulnerable communities and restoring lasting peace in the affected areas.
During the engagement, the delegation conveyed the IGP’s deep concern over the loss of the police personnel and civilians, while reaffirming the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to ensuring that the sacrifice of the fallen officers would not be in vain.
Disu directed that available operational and intelligence resources be deployed to identify, track and apprehend those responsible for the attack.
The police leadership also reaffirmed its commitment to the welfare of the families of the slain officers, assuring that the Force would provide necessary support to the bereaved families in line with its welfare policies and ensure that the sacrifices of the fallen personnel are duly honoured.
The Kebbi State Governor, Dr Nasir Idris, commended the police for the courage and sacrifice of its personnel and reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to supporting the Force and other security agencies in the fight against terrorism, banditry and other criminal activities.
Idris also pledged sustained collaboration with security agencies, particularly in intelligence sharing and operational support, while stressing the need to prevent criminal elements from establishing safe havens in the state.
The IGP, in turn, appreciated the Kebbi State Government for its continued partnership and support, while restating the Force’s determination to intensify coordinated and intelligence-driven operations against terrorism, banditry and other violent crimes.
The police said it would continue to work with the Kebbi State Government, sister security agencies and local communities to protect lives and property and restore security in affected areas.
The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, said the Nigeria Police Force remained resolute in its constitutional responsibility to safeguard citizens, adding that every effort would be made to bring the perpetrators of the Sakaba attack to justice.
The Force also honoured the memory of the fallen officers and expressed solidarity with their families.
