IGP reaffirms commitment to tech-driven policing as NDC course 33 visits force headquarters

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, on, 22nd July 2025, hosted the Commandant of the National Defence College (NDC), Rear Admiral J.O. Okosun, along with senior directing staff and participants of Course 33 at the Force Headquarters, Abuja.

According to Force Public Relations Officer Force Headquarters ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the high-level visit, held at the IGP Smart Conference Hall, brought together senior military and police officials, including the Deputy Commandant of the NDC, Major General K.O. Ukandu, faculty members of the college, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) management team, and senior officers. A key highlight of the engagement was the presentation of a research paper titled “Emerging Technologies and Internal Security: Strategic Options for the Nigeria Police Force by 2035” by NPF Course 33 participants of the NDC.

In his remarks, Rear Admiral Okosun commended the Inspector-General for the warm reception and reiterated the NDC’s mandate to promote strategic thinking and innovation among its participants. He praised the NPF participants for their forward-looking research, which he described as timely and essential for addressing Nigeria’s evolving security landscape. He also acknowledged the longstanding collaboration between the NDC and the Nigeria Police Force and expressed hope for deeper engagement under the current police leadership.

Presenting the research findings, Deputy Commissioner of Police D.B. Lamba outlined a strategic framework aimed at integrating emerging technologies into policing by the year 2035. The roadmap proposes reforms across institutional, legal, infrastructural, and human resource domains, with a focus on building a more agile and tech-enabled police force to enhance internal security, crime prevention, and rapid response capacity nationwide.

Responding to the presentation, IGP Egbetokun congratulated Rear Admiral Okosun on his appointment and reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to continuous modernization. He commended the Course 33 participants for their insightful and evidence-based research, underscoring the need for the NPF to proactively adopt technology-driven solutions to stay ahead of security threats.

“The future of policing lies in innovation and strategic foresight,” the IGP stated. “We are committed to leveraging emerging technologies to drive reforms and enhance service delivery across the country.”

The event further cemented the strategic partnership between the Nigeria Police Force and the National Defence College in the shared pursuit of national security and institutional development.
